About За нас
The Bulgarian Society for Phenomenology (БФнО) was founded in late 2025. Its aim is to promote academic activity, teaching, research, translation, and publication in the field of phenomenology, through the organisation of conferences, lectures, roundtables, summer schools, and the publication of periodic and non-periodic volumes, as well as other activities conducive to its goals. The Bulgarian Society for Phenomenology is the only association in Bulgaria of this kind.
The Society was officially presented on 15 May 2026 in the Aula ("Яйцето") of the Rectorate of Sofia University by Prof. Alexander Schnell (University of Wuppertal) — President of the International Association for Phenomenology (AIP).
The Society understands itself as a direct successor to the "Phenomenological Atelier" founded and led by Prof. Dimitar Zashev (1993–).
Significant contributions to the founding and ongoing work of the Society have been made by Prof. Dan Zahavi (University of Copenhagen) and Prof. Sophie Loidolt (TU Darmstadt), who, together with Prof. Schnell, are honorary members of the Society.
Българското феноменологическо общество беше учредено в края на 2025 г. Целта му е да насърчава академичната дейност, преподаването, изследванията, преводите и публикациите, свързани с феноменологията, чрез организирането на конференции, лекции, кръгли маси, училища, публикуване на периодични и непериодични издания, както и други форми на дейност, допринасящи за осъществяването на целите му. Българското феноменологическо общество е единственото сдружение в България с такъв характер на дейност.
Обществото беше официално представено на 15 май 2026 г. в зала „Яйцето" на Ректората на Софийски университет от проф. Александер Шнел (Университета във Вупертал) – председател на Международната асоциация по феноменология (AIP).
Обществото определя себе си като пряк приемник на основаното и водено от проф. Димитър Зашев „Феноменологическо ателие" (1993–).
Основен принос за създаването и дейността на Обществото имат също проф. Дан Захави (Университет на Копенхаген) и проф. Софи Лойдолт (Технически университет Дармщат), които, заедно с проф. Шнел, са и почетни членове на Обществото.

Membership is open to academics, researchers, doctoral candidates, and advanced students with a serious interest in phenomenology and related fields in continental philosophy. There are no geographical restrictions on membership.

2. The Society is a non-profit association operating for public benefit.
3. The aim of the Society is to promote academic activity, teaching, research, translation, and publication in the field of phenomenology. The means for achieving this aim may include: conferences, lectures, roundtables, summer schools, and other events related to the Society's activities, as well as periodic and non-periodic publications.
4. The registered seat of the association is: Sofia 1527, 41 Stara Planina Street, Apt. 11.
1. Membership is open to all persons who take an interest in the goals of the Society and wish to participate in its activities. This includes faculty, students, as well as independent scholars and researchers in philosophy and disciplines in which phenomenology has application. There are no geographical restrictions on membership.
2. Membership is established upon submission of an application to the Executive Committee and acceptance by decision of the Board.
1. The General Assembly is the supreme governing body of the Society. It convenes once a year. It may nominate members of the Executive Committee. It elects and removes members of the Executive Committee; amends and supplements the Constitution; adopts other internal acts.
2. The Executive Committee of the Society consists of a minimum of five members. Where possible, members should represent different Bulgarian universities and research institutions. One of the members is elected as President of the Society.
The Executive Committee is responsible for the administrative functioning of the Society. In cases of disagreement, decisions are taken by simple majority. Members are elected by the General Assembly at the annual meetings and serve a three-year term.
The President of the Executive Committee is elected by the Board itself from among its members at the first meeting following the Board's election by the General Assembly. Every newly elected member of the Executive Committee may be nominated as President and may put forward their own candidacy. The election of the President is conducted by open vote, and the candidate with the most votes is deemed elected. The President's term expires with the expiry of the Executive Committee's term. The post of President may not be held for more than two consecutive terms.
2(a). In the event that the annual meeting is cancelled: a) the term of any member of the Executive Committee whose term expires is automatically extended until the next annual meeting; b) if the President's term expires, the Executive Committee may decide to extend the term until the next annual meeting.
3. The duties and powers of the Executive Committee include: a) organising and developing the programme for the annual meetings, which may be held in various Bulgarian cities and institutions; b) administering policies related to the Society's publications; c) promoting cooperation with other academic societies; d) nominating candidates for the Executive Committee; e) establishing other committees as necessary; f) maintaining communication with members through newsletters, emails, and other means.
4. The Society does not maintain a treasury and does not appoint a treasurer, as it does not engage in financial or commercial activity. The Executive Committee does not engage in financial management unless the General Assembly decides to change this arrangement.
5. The association is represented by each individual member of the Executive Committee and by all members of the Executive Committee jointly.
1. This Constitution may be amended by a simple majority of the members present at the General Assembly, provided that the text of the proposed amendment has been sent to each member at least two weeks before the meeting.
